Prevention, Safety and Education is a huge theme of the TLAER courses because as animal owners and stakeholders learn to prevent the common types of incidents, focus can be shifted to the unusual and highly technical ones.

Courses are updated constantly — allowing students to learn the most current methods and equipment in each course. Each squad or organization has their own response protocols, equipment cache, and policies. The primary instructors search, communicate and distribute with people all around the world and by doing so they are able to develop innovating tactics, techniques and procedures to share with their students.
The TLAER courses range from the AWARENESS level of 16 hours classroom instruction and hands-on demonstrations to the Operations level courses which covers Awareness concepts and in 24 hours of technical instruction featuring hands on training with live animals, including horses and sometimes other large animals depending on venue.

Over the last two decades, as the occurrence of large animal incidents became more common, branches of emergency services have begun to respond to such calls for service as the public has adopted a " Call Does It All" mentality.
These departments, organizations, and teams have invested in some of the specialized TLAER equipment necessary to more easily perform these rescues. These defined levels provide an outline of a system used to manage an incident efficiently and effectively, to maximize personnel safety, and to bring about the successful rescue of victims and the eventual termination of the event.
Consulting is available for departments and organizations trying to put together a Large Animal Rescue program. Innovation is often required by rescuers as each incident and rescue operation is different than the last one.
The Syllabus covers the use of physical and chemical restraint, manipulations of large animals, vertical lifts, use of rescue ropes and knots in TLAER, prevention and response to a variety of scenarios from barn fires, mud and water rescue, among other situations on the highway with loose animals and trailer wrecks.
It is not field ditch medicine. This training covers natural disasters as well as local emergencies, and teaches simple techniques that can be applied to all large animals in scenarios such as ON YOUR FARM to on the highway to within a disaster response. What the TLAER training course does is bring together in two to four days, depending on the training course level all of the latest concepts, techniques, procedures and equipment being used today.

Students will learn how command operates on scene and the importance of scene stabilization during auto extrication. Students will be required to demonstrate in a team environment arriving on scene and completing roles assigned by command.
